CR03
2006

The CR03 chassis exploits the same low-density, high-stiffness aluminium sandwich panel as its predecessor. It now employs a full monocoque design with significant reductions in both size and mass. The speed and accuracy of manufacture has been greatly improved with the use of CNC routing to produce the chassis panels. The equivalence analysis performed by the team predicts the monocoque to be at least five times stronger than the examined space frame design in all of the analysed load cases.
To design the suspension system, the team has used a simulated model of the car in MSC ADAMS, constructed with real data from track testing and tyre properties from the FSAE Tyre Test Consortium.
The engine intake system on CR03 is an all-new light-weight carbon fibre side entry plenum, attached to a long diffuser section. The cooling and fuel systems have been improved and should prove to be much more efficient.
