CR06

2010

CR06 testing rear 1000 x 500.png

Due to problems with the engine and various attempts to improve the reliability, CR06 would be running a heavily modified SXV 550 V-twin used in previous years which had served both the team and previous cars fairly well. The chassis would be made of the same aluminium honeycomb material as previous cars whilst changes to the design would aim to improve performance.

Before design began on CR06 it was decided that reduction of size (and thus weight) was going to again be our main aim. As such a few keys areas were identified as crucial areas in which the team could easily make reductions. The side pods were top priority (due to the extra unused space in the previous car), the chassis size (length and width) and the suspension design and set-up of the car were also determined as key areas for improvement.

At the event CR06 scored well in terms of design and cost, however despite a very competitive time in the sprint, catching four cones left us with an 8 second penalty and in a slower group for the endurance event than ideal. A small electrical glitch put pay to our chances of a good score in the endurance and fuel economy events and the car stopped after only 4 laps. As a result we were only able to finish 35th overall out of ~100 competitors. A respectable score none the less but the team will continue to strive for bigger and better things in future. The team also finished 2nd in the Airbus Teamwork award.
